What Do Graphic Design Agencies Do?
After graduating from possibly your several graphic design courses there are a number of career paths open to you. Many choose to join a publishing company, working on magazines’ layouts and images. Others work on a freelance basis in specialist subjects and further still some choose to join a graphic design agency. From the papers you read, to the billboards on your way to work, to the papers you read and the television you watch, each media has a specialised graphic designer, many of which are working for a graphic design agency. When it comes to a company’s visual representation the images, colours and text need to perfect in order to correctly address their target audience. The right graphic or logo will surmise the nature of the business, how they work and what they do
Employing the most switched on graphic designers available, a graphic design agency works on a job-to-job basis, taking on individual projects from companies around the world. This means the graphic design agency as a whole works alongside clients – usually large corporate businesses for more established agencies- offering bespoke solutions to enhance the identity of their businesses. This process often starts with a consultation establishing the needs of the company, gathering more information about the business and finding the correct angle to take. This could mean discussing everything from the colours that most connect with the client’s audience, to the images that best represent what the company is offering. Every aspect of the client’s business is scrutinised to ensure that the graphic designers can go back with a clear understanding of what the business is looking for.
After the consultants and graphic designers are satisfied that they have all the information that they need to continue, they will brief a graphic designer who will usually produce around three to five ideas for the client. With the basics etched out it is up to the company to either ask the agency to produce more ideas or to develop a produced one further. The entire procedure has no fixed timings meaning you can be working on the same job for anything from a few weeks to around a year in order to finalise.
